Octane Infinity 50, Besta 7 57

14 07 2008

The Octane Infinity just could not shake off the curse and remained winless at Life Christian School at Beaverton, OR, last Monday, July 14, 2008, as they played Besta 7 for the second time this season.

The Besta 7 controlled the first half with a 14-point lead over the Octane Infinity. On the upside, the Octane Infinity managed to outscore the Besta 7 in the second half, 32-26, but it was not enough to overcome the first-half deficit.

Chris Turman and Mike R. led the Octane Infinity in scoring with 13 points each. Adam Crane played an efficient game, scoring 12 points on 6-of-13 shooting.

“Wow! Just four attempts at the foul line?” asked John Le incredulously. “Did you get that same young ref at that school who usually refs there and rarely blows his whistle?”

The Octane Infinity were without guard Edwin Tanedo and forward John Le.

The game marks the end of the Summer 1 2008 season. But next Monday starts the Summer 2 2008 season and you’ll be sure to see the Octane Infinity bounce back.

Octane Infinity 31, Mentor 65

16 06 2008

Outscoring Mentor in the second half 27-21 wasn’t enough for the Octane Infinity to secure the win at Life Christian School in Aloha, OR, last Monday, June 16, 2008. The first half deficit was just too much as the Octane Infinity endured their weirdest first half in team history. On the bright side, despite the team’s poor field goal percentage, each Octane Infinity player did manage to score.

Chris Turman led the Octane Infinity with 10 points, 13 rebounds, and five steals. Marcus Berger picked up 12 rebounds and four points on 2-of-3 shooting.

“Nice to see everyone score and though I’d like to forget this game, I’ll always remember it for the Twilight zone 1st half, especially since our warm up crunch game Mike and Chris were on fire hitting everything they put up!” remarked Edwin Tanedo.

The Octane Infinity were without center David Camp and guard Adam Crane.

First Tech Credits 69, Octane Infinity 53

7 04 2008

Jonas ReyesIt’s a good thing the Octane Infinity consist of a team of nice guys. Otherwise, their game against the First Tech Credits would’ve ended in a brawl at Life Christian School in Hillsboro, OR, last Monday, April 7, 2008. The referees swallowed their whistles when it came to the First Tech Credits’ aggressive, physical play against the Octane Infinity. Yet, on the other end, the referees were quick to blow the whistle against the Octane Infinity, including the phantom foul called on Jonas Reyes in the first half.

The non-calls caused frustration in the normally patient Octane Infinity team, affecting their offense and their defense, and even resulting in a technical foul being called against their center David Camp during the final minute of the game. Compounded by a team field goal percentage of 29%, the Octane Infinity lost 69-53.

“There is a kind of honor in receiving a technical from refs so inconsistent and lousy,” remarked Adam Crane.

Jonas Reyes led the Octane Infinity in scoring with 19 points on 7-of-13 shooting and snatched three steals.

Edwin Tanedo“The effort was there as it always is, and we were only down by five at halftime. But something about tonight just left a bad taste in my mouth—I think this is the first time where I really felt like the refs did a poor job officiating,” stated Edwin Tanedo. “I give the other team credit for making those open threes and for getting to those rebounds, but still… do they have to push and go over the back multiple times with no whistle?”

Tanedo contributed 11 points and seven rebounds while Chris Turman had nine points, seven rebounds, and three blocks.

Tanedo added, “I was talking to Jonas after the game, and usually I’ll say something like ‘I would like to play that team again’ or ‘I wish we could have kept playing.’ But on this night, I didn’t want to have anything to do with them and hope we never play them again.”

Octane Infinity 50, Under Construction 71

17 03 2008

David CampThe word of the day last Monday night, March 17, 2008, at the Christian Life School in Hillsboro, OR, was hustle, which is exactly what David Camp of the Octane Infinity demonstrated on the basketball court against Under Construction.

David Camp scored 16 points on 8-of-17 shooting and snagged 18 rebounds, 12 of which were on the offensive end.

“Kudos to David for all his hustle and boardwork. I’ll never forget him going after those two close misses and grabbing that third rebound to put it in the basket. And he did that twice!” acclaimed team co-captain Edwin Tanedo.

Chris Turman chipped in 12 points and eight rebounds, while John Le contributed six rebounds and five assists.

But Under Construction muscled their way to a 17 point lead at halftime and never looked back, defeating the Octane Infinity 71-50.

“The refs didn’t really call any fouls, and it was a sloppy game from both sides,” stated Tanedo. “My feelings are that the team we played had some good individual players, but weren’t really playing a team game as there was plenty of show-boating going on there. We had some good looks at the basket that just didn’t fall, and the other team also had some shots that were difficult and closely contested but they happened to have a good bounce and fall in.”

The Octane Infinity were without guard Adam Crane, who was out of town.

Aloha Monday

14 03 2008

BasketballThe Octane Infinity will be looking to extend their winning streak as they play Under Construction on 7pm this Monday, March 17, 2008, at the Life Christian School in Aloha, OR. The Octane Infinity will be without their high-energy guard Adam Crane, who will be out of town.

The Under Construction team did not play in the previous season so there is currently no information on how the Octane Infinity will match up.

“When we face teams that have never played against us, they usually make the mistake of leaving Chris (Turman) open early in the game, which ends up giving us an early lead,” observed Jonas Reyes. “We just need to make sure that we have a game plan for the second half when they start collapsing on Chris.”
