Octane Infinity 57, HGI 48

Winning season, fellas!  Adam came out to support the team, and we unveiled our new uniforms to a great win!  I’m not washing mine until we lose again (but don’t worry, I will –  from Lisa), so let’s go 7-0 for Fall season #2 and make me the stinky man.

The better team won last night, and we had a nice even game from everyone.  Once again Chris and David carried the rebounding load with 24 total boards.  David was more active on his shooting, taking 11 shots and keeping his temper under control as he said he would.  Mike focused on his 2-point shooting and ended up with a FANTASTIC 50%!!!!  He still managed to hoist up 12 3’s and made five of them.  John was Mr. Free Throw, hitting six of seven for 86%.  The game’s highlight was Marcus getting his free throw attempts with no time on the clock, and actually hitting the backboard!  HGI made a little come back at the end of the game, but we had it well in hand and it was a good end for our most successful season ever.  Way to go Octane!

Octane Infinity 49, Corbett Fish House 55

The Octane Infinity had a chance to redeem themselves against Corbett Fish House last Monday, October 6, 2008 at The Courts in Beaverton, OR. In their previous matchup, Corbett Fish House decisively defeated the Octane Infinity by 18 points.

The Octane Infinity gave a solid effort, working hard on defense which resulted in nine team steals. The score was close throughout the game and was eventually determined at the free throw line.

“They were pretty patient, passed the ball around to the open guy and then swished their open 3’s,” said Edwin Tanedo. “We were close throughout the game and Mike admitted that they locked down on him and there wasn’t much he could do shooting-wise.”

Chris Turman led the team with 14 points, eight rebounds, and three steals. Mike R. contributed 11 points while Tanedo chipped in nine points.

“We have a chance next week to end our season on the winning end, so I’m looking forward to next Monday,” added Tanedo. “And we did some good things tonight, definitely a lot better than the last time we played them!”

The Octane Infinity were without guard Adam Crane and forward John Le.

Octane Infinity 72, Cascade Microtech 27

The Octane Infinity would never have expected a lopsided victory against Cascade Microtech at The Courts in Beaverton, OR, last Monday, September 29, 2008.

Tenacious defense and high percentage shooting provided the Octane Infinity a 34-17 lead at the half. But the halftime break did not cool off the Octane Infinity as they continued to dominate the game and even limiting Cascade Microtech to 10 points in the second half.

“I realized after that game that if there is a blow out for either side just feels like a Saturday Ballys day,” remarked Mike R. “We are loose and free, hence the turnovers but it is fun.  The most satisfying wins are the close ones.”

Mike R. led the Octane Infinity in scoring with 22 points, shooting 9-of-20 from the field, grabbing six rebounds and snatching three steals. Chris Turman and David Camp both managed to achieve double-doubles for the night with Turman getting 16 points and 16 rebounds and Camp notching 12 points and 19 rebounds.

“One of the fun things about that game is that we played (and almost always play) very well together,” commented Turman. “We definitely struggle when we go up against a tall D-league team when they’re our second of a double-header, but we tend to challenge almost everyone we play.”

Octane Infinity 62, Al’s Gators 68

The Octane Infinity played against Al’s Gators last Monday, September 22, 2008, at The Courts in Beaverton, OR. The Octane Infinity exploded early in the first half and built a huge lead over Al’s Gators. But Al’s Gators kept chipping away at the lead and by halftime, they cut the lead down to five. Unfortunately for the Octane Infinity, Chris Turman had to leave the game due to a prior commitment and did not play the second half. Al’s Gators took full advantage and rallied to take the lead with minutes left in the game. In the end, Al’s Gators just passed around to milk the clock as they won, 68-62.

“Close game last night, I blame it on Chris because look at his line! 2/8, 2 rebounds, 1 block? Come on man, you gotta be more selfish!!! Taking only 8 shots, only getting 2 boards? What were you doing?” questioned Edwin Tanedo. “It’s as if you only decided to play one half and then bail out on us. Were you trying to be like Kobe? Show us a lesson?”

Mike R. led the Octane Infinity in scoring with 28 points, hitting eight three-point shots for the night. David Camp contributed 10 points and eight rebounds, and Edwin Tanedo added 10 points.

“I should be back in full selfish greedy-ass form next week,” warned Chris Turman. “Good luck prying the ball out of my hands, fellas!”

Octane Infinity 91, Mondays Indis 63

Things were just clicking for the Octane Infinity against the Monday Indis at The Courts in Beaverton, OR, last Monday, September 15, 2008. Between scoring the most points and committing the least turnovers in a single game in their team history, the Octane Infinity were just too much to handle for the Monday Indis.

The Octane Infinity built up a 13-point lead by half time. Then despite David Camp’s mini-ejection in the second half, the Octane Infinity still managed to increase their lead to 28 points, overwhelming the Monday Indis, 91-63.

“My favorite of the night was Scott’s steal and drive to the hoop,” recalled David Camp. “Highlight material!”

Chris Turman had a great all-around game of 18 points, 16 rebounds, six assists, four blocks, and two steals. Mike R. lead the team in scoring with 30 points, shooting 6-of-12 from outside the three-point line. John Le and Jonas Reyes both added 14 points each.

“While we had the game early on, we really demoralized our opponents with Jonas’s fast break 2’s, Mike’s open 3’s, and John stroking too from the outside enroute to 4/6 from beyond the arc,” stated Edwin Tanedo. “This is John’s last game for this season, so nice way to go out big fella, the Bomb!”

Octane Infinity 53, Coordination Optional 61

In the second game of a double-header of the night, the Octane Infinity played against Coordination Optional last Monday, September 8, 2008 at the Pearl Courts in Portland, OR.

The Octane Infinity had a very low scoring first half with 18 points, shooting was a dismal 7-of-34 from the field and finding themselves 10 points down. Coordination Optional extended their lead in the second half, but with Mike R. finding three straight buckets, the Octane Infinity cut the lead to one with minutes to spare. However, Coordination Optional converted some unbelievable three point shots, holding off the Octane Infinity, 61-53.

“Once again, as in our previous game with Coordinational Optional, the referees swallowed their whistles on a lot of fouls,” remarked Edwin Tanedo.

Mike R. led the Octane Infinity in scoring with 15 points while Edwin Tanedo and Jonas Reyes contributed 10 points each.

Octane Infinity 61, East County Express 55

The Octane Infinity played in a new venue as part of their season opener last Monday, September 8, 2008 as they faced the East County Express at the Pearl Courts in Portland, OR. It was the Octane Infinity’s first game of a double-header for the night.

By the end of the first half, the Octane Infinity exploded to a 39-23 lead over the East County Express. The East County Express were able to rally in the second half, cutting the lead to seven with five minutes to go. But Mike R. dished out two key assists to David Camp, sealing the victory over the East County Express, 61-55.

“I love it. David even got credit for his three he attempted in the first game,” expressed John Le. “I really enjoyed playing on that court. I’m guessing Mike did too – he was on FIRE!”

Mike R. led the Octane Infinity in scoring with 22 points on 8-of-16 shooting, including a game high of six three-pointers, six rebounds, and two steals. Chris Turman also had an efficient game with 8-of-15 shooting, scoring 16 points, grabbing 10 rebounds, and snatching two steals.

The Octane Infinity will be without the services of speedster guard Adam Crane this season after he sustained a knee injury in the previous game.

Octane Infinity 64, HGI 54

For the second game of their double-header night, the Octane Infinity matched up against HGI last Monday, August 25, 2008 at The Courts in Beaverton, OR.

The Octane Infinity came out smoking, staking a 23-point halftime lead.  If it weren’t for Adam Crane’s unfortunate collision with their big man, the Octane Infinity’s speed and uptempo push would have amounted to an even bigger lead.  As it was, HGI made the score respectable,  cutting the deficit to 10 by the end of the game.

It was too much Mike R. and Jonas Reyes for HGI to contend with. Mike R. scored 25 points on 9-of-16 shooting, which included 6-of-10 from three-point range. Jonas Reyes added 19 points and swiped four steals.

“I fell into old habits,” stated Mike R. “But also, I felt bad for the other team which may be a first and took
more threes but that worked out.”

The Octane Infinity were without center David Camp, who was out of town.

Adam Crane sustained a knee injury in the first half and was unable to return to the game. “I’m going to have it looked at this evening,” said Crane. “After I get some more information to work with, I’m going to decide about next season.”

The Octane Infinity faced Corbett Fish House as their first game of a double-header night last Monday, August 25, 2008 at The Courts in Beaverton, OR.

Corbett Fish House struck out to a sizeable halftime lead, shooting well from three-point range. The Octane Infinity was not able to mount much of a comeback.

“Mike had a kick ass shooting game, but our opponents got a lot of threes and had a bunch of shots roll in instead of out,” recalled Edwin Tanedo. “The rest of our offense struggled, with Edwin, Chris and Adam shooting a combined 10 for 46!”

Mike R. had a great offensive game, scoring  25 points on 9-of-19 shooting and grabbing six rebounds. Adam Crane added 10 points, eight rebounds, and four steals.

The Octane Infinity were without center David Camp, who was out of town.

Octane Infinity 62, Kelley’s Kids 92

The E-League Octane Infinity faced C-League team Kelley’s Kids last Monday, August 18, 2008 at The Courts in Beaverton, OR. Unfortunately, the Octane Infinity could not find an answer to Kelley’s Kids level of play.

After taking a quick 2-0 lead in the beginning of the game, the Octane Infinity were unable to control Kelley’s Kids from scoring 18 points straight and it became an uphill battle for the Octane Infinity at that point. Kelley’s Kids quickly keyed in on Octane Infinity sharp-shooter Mike R., who had an unusual game of only scoring two points.

“I just wish that they gave (Mike R.) even just a little bit of room so that he could make them pay for leaving him open!” claimed Edwin Tanedo. “But good teams zero in on Reggie Miller, and that’s what they did last night.”

On the bright side for the Octane Infinity, they had two players with double-double stats. Chris Turman led the Octane Infinity with 24 points, 15 rebounds, three blocks, and two steals. Adam Crane contributed his own double-double with 12 points and snagging 11 rebounds.

The Octane Infinity were without center David Camp, who was out of town.
