Octane Infinity 57, Rucky Stars 55

23 06 2008

After a disheartening game against Besta 7, the Octane Infinity had to play the second game of their double-header against the Rucky Stars last Monday, June 23, 2008, at The Courts in Beaverton, OR. The Octane Infinity was looking forward to the match up, hoping to redeem themselves from the previous game.

The first half proved to be a close game, ending with the Rucky Stars leading by three points at the half. But the start of the second half was a different story. The Octane Infinity piled on a lead as high as 15.

During the last three minutes of the game, the Rucky Stars rallied back from a 10 point deficit and tied the game with less than a minute to go. With time winding down, the Rucky Stars were forced to foul the Octane Infinity, who had their best free shooting squad on the floor. Mike R. and Adam Crane sealed the victory with clutch free throws, giving the Octane Infinity one of their most dramatic victories, 57-55.

“Our first win!” exclaimed Edwin Tanedo. “Hard fought and well played, we all had contributions from everyone and thanks to Mr. Clutch Adam and Sucker MC Mike for making free throws!”

Chris Turman led the Octane Infinity with 18 points, eight rebounds, and 3 blocks. Mike R. contributed 16 points and Adam Crane added 10 points and three steals.

Octane Infinity 44, Besta 7 62

23 06 2008

The Octane Infinity faced the Besta 7 last Monday, June 23, 2008, at The Courts in Beaverton, OR, as their first game of the double-header of the night. The game was close in the first half, but Besta 7 managed to pull away for the win, 62-44.

“They had the size advantage on us and were pretty good at boxing us out to get those second-chance buckets,” commented Jonas Reyes. “Although I do question if the referees swallowed their whistles when it came to calling 3-seconds-in-the-key violations.”

Chris Turman led the Octane Infinity with 12 points and 14 rebounds, while Adam Crane contributed 10 points on 4-of-8 shooting.

Octane Infinity 31, Mentor 65

16 06 2008

Outscoring Mentor in the second half 27-21 wasn’t enough for the Octane Infinity to secure the win at Life Christian School in Aloha, OR, last Monday, June 16, 2008. The first half deficit was just too much as the Octane Infinity endured their weirdest first half in team history. On the bright side, despite the team’s poor field goal percentage, each Octane Infinity player did manage to score.

Chris Turman led the Octane Infinity with 10 points, 13 rebounds, and five steals. Marcus Berger picked up 12 rebounds and four points on 2-of-3 shooting.

“Nice to see everyone score and though I’d like to forget this game, I’ll always remember it for the Twilight zone 1st half, especially since our warm up crunch game Mike and Chris were on fire hitting everything they put up!” remarked Edwin Tanedo.

The Octane Infinity were without center David Camp and guard Adam Crane.

Octane Infinity 66, Pine Riders 85

9 06 2008

The Octane Infinity has rejoined the Portland Basketball league with their first game facing the Pine Riders at The Courts in Beaverton, OR, last Monday, June 9, 2008.

The Octane Infinity came out hot in the first couple of minutes of the game as Adam Crane scored seven quick points and fueled a 12-2 run. But the Pine Riders recovered, eventually took the lead, and held on to win the game 85-66.

“Our first game is under our belt and though we didn’t get the victory, we played hard as we all had our hands full with the bigger team,” said Edwin Tanedo. “It was just that every shot they put up seemed to drop in even when it looked like it was going to tilt out.”

Mike R. led the Octane Infinity with 17 points, while Chris Turman notched another double-double with 13 points and 10 rebounds.

Mike Makes 18

7 06 2008

Looking back, I wish I could have made a two-pointer instead of a three.  That way I could have a secured my place in Crunch history with 19 consecutive free throws.  I think I will be alone in that upper echelon for a long time.

The first eight were easy.  The middle seven were tough as I knew what I was about to achieve in front of Edwin’s envious eyes.  The last three free throws were some of the cleanest I have made and I smiled on each of them.

Instead of the red line being the starting place, I should start the Unlimited Free Throw Crunch game at the line and see if I can make 21 in a row crumpling Edwin into a heap of tears.

With Edwin’s three month vacation coming up, he can work on his free throws which seem to damn him most every Crunch game. Maybe Shaq could work with him to at least get him to that level.
