The only thing sweeter than closing out the season with a win is closing it out with a blowout victory. And that’s precisely what the Octane Infinity did at The Courts in Beaverton, OR, last Monday, March 3, 2008, as they defeated Coordination Optional 79-47.
Unlike their previous couple of games, the Octane Infinity did not build a huge lead in the first few minutes of the game. Instead, the game was close with Coordination Optional having a five-point lead by halftime.
Then on the second half, the Octane Infinity’s defense got tighter, which led to turnovers and fast break opportunities. The frustrated Coordination Optional team compounded their problems even further by making unforced turnovers and getting called for a technical foul.
“I was surprised when I looked at the scoreboard and saw how much we were ahead,” recalled Jonas Reyes. “I guess we were just all so focused on playing smart and working hard on defense. It’s amazing we were able to hold them to only score 11 points in the second half.”
The victory was a great way for the Octane Infinity to finish the season, especially since they scored a season-high of 79 points on 47% shooting from inside the 3-point arc and 40% shooting from outside the 3-point arc.
Chris Turman had his game of the season with 34 points on 13-of-25 shooting from the field, 14 rebounds, and three blocks for the Octane Infinity.
David Camp contributed 13 points on 6-of-10 shooting, 9 rebounds, and 2 steals. Edwin Tanedo added 11 points, four rebounds, and two steals.
The Octane Infinity were without power forward Marcus Berger, who was away on business.
The upcoming Spring 1 season starts Monday, March 10, 2008, and the Octane Infinity will be back on the hardwood.
