There were no invitations sent out nor a cake ordered when Octane Infinity’s Chris Turman decided to throw an impromptu block party at Liberty High School in Hillsboro, OR on Monday, January 28, 2008. He made an astounding 5 blocks to complement his 20 points, 17 rebounds, and 1 steal.
Edwin Tanedo scored 17 points, making five 3-pointers. Tanedo and Turman sparked a run in the second half to cut a 9-point deficit to 3.
The game marked the return of Adam Crane, known for his deceptive quickness and pesky defense, who scored 4 points, making an efficient line of 2 of 3 shots, 1 rebound, 1 assist, and 1 steal.
“I thought we did great rotating guys in and out, and our offensive woes still continue to be about spacing and setting screens,” said Tanedo. “I like our D, Adam is a pest and Chris and David and Marcus crash those boards like nobody’s business. The other team’s one big dude got a lot of rebounds though and they got a bunch of second chance points.”
The game was a lot closer than the score indicates. The league’s rules dictate that stop time only occurs if the point difference is within 6 points or less at the two minute mark, and unfortunately, Octane Inifinity were facing a seven-point deficit. The running clock led to Black and Veatch passing the ball around and refusing to take a shot until time expired.
Tanedo added, “We were close and that was a good team for us to play, I just wish I could have guarded the girl a little more closely and ‘accidentally’ brush her boob or something!”
